Do you think this is tacky and just plain pathetic (Watchtower) ?????
by run dont walk ini just returned from ontario, where a family member died, i was reading the obit, and i know its been said millions of times, but this really blew me away.
"a private family burial at ______ cemetery.
a memorial service will be held at the kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses on saturday august 13, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. as expressions of sympathy, please send donations to world wide work of jehovah's witnesses.".

I have never cried as much and been so emotionally touched forever, as when all of you here at JWD sent flowers and a blanket for my daughter's funeral service. It meant the world to me and I felt like I was not completely surrounded by JW in-law's and all alone.
I believe Nina is right, it is not good manners to request money at all. Someone (without my permission) printed such a comment in my daughter's announcement without my approval and I did feel terrible, although it mentioned Talia's favorite charity (Greenpeace).
But, I feel sending your thoughts, cards, letters, flowers and gifts DIRECTLY to the affected family members is probably always going to be seen as positive. -

Here is a great web site for folks, who have a tendency to over value events and coincidences and correlate everything together (like Deepak Chopra):
http://www.conspiracyarchive.com
If you are prone to relate all coincidences together, and already have a penchant for conspiracies, and are pre-disposed to believing in superstitious organzations, then you will enjoy the evidence and information on this site. It is clever, well-researched and well written and appears very authoritative.
To me, accepting the idea the organizations forming secret plots in bhealf of evil is like accepting the bible. If and when people conspire, it is usually for material gain and not for the promotion of evil for evil's sake. -

Interesting statistic about JWs in this week's Newsweek
by lucky ini just got this week's newsweek in the mail.
the cover story is "spirituality in america".
page 54 has a table listing change in religious self-identification between 1990 and 2001. the four bottom religions, with negative percentages, are jehovah's witnesses (-4%), jewish, rastafarian, and protestant.

It's too bad though, because the decrease in the western world is supplanted by increases in the uninformed parts of the world with less resources and access to the web.
Where information is lacking, they increase. -

Death watch
by poppers init just occurred to me that if a family member were lying in their death bed, or that it was known they were about to die, that the family members would make an effort to spend as much time with them as possible.
afterall, they are going to die aren't they?
isn't it logical that you'd want to spend as much time as you could with them, or at least make the time that you still have together as enjoyable as possible?.

I have come to detest the arrogant self-righteous elitist separatisms that are willingly tolerated and practiced by active JW's and the affected victims.
Imagine publicly claiming to believe in a global cleansing war, and then devoting super-human efforts to hypocritically and secretly acquiring material gain, only to withold any resources from a relative family member if they are not loyal approved active JW's!
What gaul and audacity does it take to knowingly hold back what is supposedly going to be destroyed anyway? What level of hypocrisy must one sink to in order to issue a legally binding document to ensure such vicious policy is enforced, even after death?
These are the issues that active JW's avoid dealing with out of pure guilt. If you truly believed in armageddon, and were truly sure, you would be able to let go of it all, as Jesus told the young rich man in the book they claim to follow so adamantly!
I have found greed to be a common thread in most organized, main branches of religion. -

Tony Morris pioneered in Cranston and Huntington View congregations back in the 1970's & 1980's. His real birth name was Anthony Esposito and he was adopted by non-italian parents. He was best friends and best man with the late Bob Rosati of Cranston, and was also a mentor to now circuit overseer Lou Puerini from Cranston.
I knew Tony and both of his young teenage sons very well and spent many an afternoon and weekend out in the field with him both before and after he moved from New England to serve in North Carolina.
He was relaxed, mellow and home schooled both of the boys so they become pioneers and bethelites. I always liked Tony, but then again, I always liked Lou and Bob too, until folks got real paranoid, unreasonably illogical and loyal about the WTBS.
I hope someday his boys find their way out. -
